Lac Brochet Environmental Remediation & Alternative Energy

Location
Lac Brochet, MB
Key Services
  • Groundwater Cutoff Walls
  • In-situ and Ex-situ Remediation
  • Chemical Injection and Water Treatment
Description

This project involved the environmental remediation of two diesel-contaminated sites in a remote First Nation community in Manitoba.  Part of a larger Alternative Energy project aimed at reducing and eventually eliminating dependence on diesel fuel as a primary heating/power source in this northern isolated community.

Key Challenges
Key Solutions
  • Installation of subsurface groundwater cut-off wall and water treatment system at the lakeside.
  • Completion of a 3 year chemical oxidant injection program.
  • Management of in-situ and ex-situ remediation by chemical injection of two areas with petroleum hydrocarbon-impacted soil and groundwater.
  • Decommission and remove/relocate all above and underground infrastructure associated with the School Tank farm site.
  • Excavation and stockpiling of hydrocarbon-impacted soil at the School and Former Band and constructing an ex-situ land treatment area (LTA).
