CCAB Aboriginal BUSINESS REPORT features First Nation and Milestone Joint-Ventures
(March 31, 2021, TORONTO, ON) – Milestone Environmental Contracting Inc. is proud to be featured with our First Nation partners, Decontie Construction Inc. from Kitigan Zibi, Kwantlen First Nation and Kwikwetlem First Nation, in the CCAB Aboriginal Business Report Spring 2021 cover story “Constructing a Brighter Future,” written by Andrew Snook.
In 2015, Decontie and Milestone formed a joint venture to complete a $4.5-million decommissioning project for Hydro Quebec on the Anishinaabe territory of Kitigan Zibi. More than 30 Anishinaabe people worked on the project.
“Community engagement is part of our business model,” said Milestone’s national lead for business development, Emmanuel Saydeh. “We rely on qualified local businesses and resources for the execution of our projects… This can lead to a long term and mutually beneficial relationship, and, at times, one where the Nation develops the environmental contracting capacity and infrastructure as a stand-alone company.”
Joint venture projects such as this one, have enabled Milestone to provide environmental contracting services while also creating significant training and employment opportunities in the construction industry for community members.
Stand-alone 100 per cent First Nation owned companies created through these partnerships are building opportunities for future revenue-generation and employment for the communities.
