This project site was on a remote Island, Macklin Island, in Georgian Bay, an island approximately 11 km from the mainland (Pointe Au Baril).
Key Challenges
Management of Species at Risk
Managing logistical challenges due to the island’s remote location and reliance on barge transportation
Key Solutions
The project’s success was heavily reliant on collaboration and engagement with local stakeholders. This was essential to meet the requirements for protecting Species at Risk and to address the logistical complexities of transporting heavy equipment, supplies, and personnel to the island.
In addition, a rigorous process of screening and segregating materials was implemented to ensure a cost-effective disposal strategy.
Project Scope
Site clearing, grubbing and off-site disposal of vegetation removed.
Removal of contaminated soil to bedrock.
Segregation of impacted materials.
Implementation and reporting of environmental measures.
