Lorado Former Uranium Mill Remediation, Water Treatment and Tailings Cover

Milestone in a Joint Venture with PBN Nuna Contracting was awarded a contract to supply labour, materials, tools, equipment and incidentals for the Lorado Former Uranium Mill Remediation, Water Treatment and Tailings Cover project, located near Uranium City in Northern Saskatchewan.

The Lorado Mill project is a complex remediation given the volume of tailings material produced during the mine’s operational lifetime. The objective of the project was to install an earthen cover system over existing tailings and supply and operation of a water treatment system.

Key Highlights
  • Remote site on the northern fringe of Lake Athabasca in northern Saskatchewan required mobilizing all equipment, material and supplies by ice road, barge or fixed wing aircraft from a staging area in Stony Rapids, SK.
  • Extensive site orientation and radiation protection training for all personnel
  • Significant engagement with local Athabasca Basin personnel and businesses for hiring, equipment, and supplies
  • Remediation of an approximately 18 Hectare tailings area to strict design parameters and remediation of an additional ten contaminated satellite sites in the vicinity including treatment of an area lake to a neutral pH condition
