Description

This project required Soil washing, bioremediation and the remediation of three sites in Brantford, Ontario. The work involved barrier wall installation, excavation, stabilization service, and properly disposing of all other materials that cannot be treated on-site to a certified landfill facility.  

Key Challenges
  • Navigation across three properties intersected by a privately owned railway right of way. 
  • Installation of a remedial wall to a significant depth. 
Key Solutions
  • Developed a low permeability/ temporary shoring solution that proved equally or more effective, less expensive, and faster to install than traditional sheet pile or continuous caisson methods.  
  • Developed a slot-cut excavation technique that allowed for the safe, full-depth removal of soil adjacent to the barrier wall.

  • Concrete foundation and asphalt demolition/disposal
  • Removal, diversion, and reconstruction of storm sewer
  • Asbestos-containing material abatement
  • Excavation, stockpiling, and replacement of over 150,000 m3 (cubic meters) of clean, overburden soil
  • Construction of 2 @ 20,000 cubic meter capacity biopile treatment pads
  • Construction of 2 @ soilwashing treatment facilities
