A two-year water treatment initiative is in progress at a mine site known as the Wolverine Mine site, an underground mine that operated from 2009 until its closure in 2015. Located in a remote area roughly halfway between Watson Lake and Ross River, the site lies within the asserted traditional territory of the Kaska Nation.
To address environmental risks at the site, the Yukon Government engaged Milestone Environmental Contracting Inc. to supply, install, commission, and operate a temporary water treatment system. The system will treat and safely discharge up to 310,000 cubic metres of water from the Tailings Storage Facility (TSF) over the course of the 2025 and 2026 field seasons. Given the site’s location and climate, treatment must occur within a limited seasonal window each year before winter conditions set in.
This project is part of the Yukon Government’s ongoing efforts to ensure safe responsible environmental management of legacy mine sites. Milestone is proud to contribute our expertise in water treatment and environmental remediation at the Wolverine Mine site.
